Mercy Ministry Team
The Mercy Team of Astoria Community Church exists to provide practical help to those who need it in a way that points them to Christ. By reflecting Christ's mercy, and compassion, we seek to fulfill the mission of ACC by offering individuals the physical, material, emotional and spiritual support of a loving community.
All mercy team members have been nominated and approved by ACC members, as well as examined for spiritual maturity by the ACC elders.
Some needed areas of ministry in our church include: a meals ministry; practical and emotional support for the elderly and infirm; ESL; Financial workshops; Angel Tree; and Support Groups.
We anticipate meeting these needs through a combination of direct ministry by the mercy team, including individual and program support, networking within the congregation, and accessing the resources of the community.
As the population, needs, and resources of ACC change and evolve, so will the function and structure of the Mercy Team.
Volunteers are needed to serve with the Mercy Ministry Team and in various opportunities throughout the year. For exemple, the ACC English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry seeks to share the love of Jesus Christ as we teach English and help acculturate first generation immigrants in our neighborhood. We are also actively involved in the "Angel Tree Project". We also have volunteers at "Boys & Girls Club", NYSUM, food pantries and also helping the elderly, etc.
